Exploring the Waterfalls near Tikazalou

The plan for today was to go see a bunch of waterfalls in the North of Guadeloupe in Basse Terre. A little excursion to interrupt the routine of Tikazalou. We knew that there would be four waterfalls at least, but when we went higher and higher up the river we ended up seeing many more than four. Some were bigger and others smaller. But all beautiful in their own way.

We were hiking through the jungle, jumping over the rocks, taking a swim in every little emerald turqouise pool that we came across, climbed up and over tree roots, boulders and old logs. Jumping around like little monkeys.

The warm sun on our skin—exhausting to walk in, but worth it. The heat amplifies the beautiful cold plunges in between. It's so soothing to go for a swim in a cold little pond when outside of the water there are tropical temperatures that make you sweat.

At some point we found a little slide where the water is carving a channel into the rock and we sat down and slide on it. The french word for slide is pronounced Tobbegong I learned that day. We slide down the tobbegong until my clothes rip but it's so much fun.

Then we move on up the waterfalls and pools. Balancing over more tree stumps lying across the river in the jungle. To another waterfall. Eating a little snack, drying in the sun shining on the rocks. Repeat. It's a blissful little experience this. Sometimes simple things like walking up a river with waterfalls can make life enjoyable.

On our way back we collected a couple of coconuts and ate them when back in Tikazalou. Ending this adventurous day, crazy as always.
