Plage du Bosco and other Hidden Gems

The days in Tikazalou blend into one another. A mix of beautiful moments, a sort of routine that settles in, with nice people and simply a good time and vibe. But some days we have little adventures that feel more like traveling and less like being in a cozy home.

Near to the hostel there is a small but beautiful beach known as Plage du Bosco. It's a bit hidden away and usually quite empty, and best of all it's facing the sea exactly in the direction where the sun is setting.

Swimming in the sea, enjoying the crystal clear water and watching the colors of the water change and the waves wash upon the beautiful white sand of the beach is something I could do every day. There is something so serene and tranquil about this beach that it defies definition, you simply have to be there to experience it.

Sitting in the soft warm sand, listening to the waves, the water drying on the skin, little prickles of the sand on the feet, the sun glistening through the waves, small crabs walking from their small hiding holes across the sand, cautiously looking around. The wet sand reflecting the sky above, the shades of orange and blue.

A few days in Tikazalou there was a guy there by the name of Andre. Also known as Dede. He was a rasta dread locks person, super chill, always smoking weed, but beautiful and a bit crazy in his own peculiar sort of way. Drinking rum all day, playing dame, listening to reggae and Bob Marley the entire day from his big boom box and knowing everyone in Guadeloupe. Giving Zouk lessons to us, cooking beautiful chicken dinner together, drinking lots of rum punch.

One day we visited some of his friends in their house in the mountains and it was absolutely beautiful. From their place one can view the sea and the sunset through a little window in the jungle. We watched the sun set during a short Reiki session with another friend of Dede. Just enjoying the short moment, looking out at the sun, concentrating on the breath, becoming aware of the beauty of that moment and the place and us, there. Breathing.

Later we had some great finger food for dinner. To me the art at the places of his friends still blows me away. Just big beautiful paintings in their living rooms, that I am happy to have seen. Some of it bought, others painted by the friends of Dede.

On the way back from the house of Dede's "dudu", which means "darling" in Kreole, it was already late at night. Yet we stopped by on the beach to enjoy the moment.

Lying there in the sand that retained some of the heat of the day we were listening to the waves, watching the stars overhead.

The feeling of peace and calmness spreading through my body was wonderful, almost overwhelming. There were even some blue shimmering dots of bioluminescent plankton floating along with the waves. I love these small blinking lights in the sea and the sand they look surreal, like tiny blue sparks of magic.

Another day we went to a small waterfall nearby. It's a crazy sort of place. A short hike up through the jungle and then you are greeted by a set of three waterfalls in quick succession. At first a big one, falling straight down a cliff without any pool to swim in.

Then one with a pool set in a sort of ravine, with cliffs to the right and left that make the whole scene feel a bit claustrophobic but also magical and mystical somehow. Finally one with a big, deep, turquoise pool, where you can go for a beautiful swim as well as jumping into the water from a small cliff nearby.

We really enjoyed our small little hike and this excursion, the cold water, the waterfalls, climbing over the rocks. The break in the routine life of Tikazalou, the little adventure.

On our way back, the sun was already setting, the sea and clouds in the distance glowing through the trees of the forest.

Moments like these, with wet hair and clothes, walking back with two beautiful people, enjoying the warmth of the evening in this tropical climate, and the surreal view, that's what traveling is all about, and a wide smile settles into my face. Of contentment. This is what life can be like and there is nothing more to be desired.
