Fisherman's Trail - Day 1 - Arriving in Sines
Yesterday I arrived in Sines. It's a beautiful little Portuguese city near the ocean, and I slept in a wonderful little but expensive (35€ per night for one person) hostel named Origens Hostel. The view from the rooftop terrace had a funny geometry, and they had a nice little wall overlooking the street to sit on.
The bus here was cheap from Lisbon, even though I had to run through the rain to get to the bus stop on time. I paid 8€ for the ticket, which is not too bad for a 3 and 1/2 hour ride, but sometimes there are tickets for as low as 4€ though. Leaving my hostel was nice, though, and I saw some beautiful street art along the way.
I wish I could have stopped along the way on the bus ride to Sines to take some photos... with the rain and low-hanging clouds, the small cities like Covirán looked straight out of a fairy tale. Green hills, with cedar and pine trees, dotted with small white houses with orange roofs, hidden behind the mist. But from the bus, it was hard to take pictures of this beauty, and I didn't end up capturing it, and it will have to live on as a memory. And maybe I can come back there on a rainy day someday.
In the hostel in Sines, I met a young Israeli dude by the name of Yoav who is gonna do the same track as I do. He seemed like a cool guy, and he's studying computer science and loves traveling and adventuring, so we think alike and get along well with one another, so we decided to go do the trek together to some part.
We went shopping, buying some groceries, and then, on the way back, bought a couple of beers, sat down near the city fort overlooking the harbor, and watched the sailboats in the night, talking about life. Small things like this make me extremely happy.
I couldn't fall asleep later that night, my sleep schedule was still fucked up because of the time in the Garden, and I kept writing a diary and organizing my notes on my phone until around 1:30 before finally falling asleep. I'm a bit tired now before the track is going to start, but we'll leave Sines for a nice morning walk, trying to reach Porto Corvo by early mid-day and then continue our journey from there. Let's see how that goes, I've heard the first part of the track Is a bit meh because it walks through an industrial park, and the weather forecast for the day looks like there's gonna be some rain.
But let's see. I'm excited about the beautiful landscapes along the coast ahead.
