Welcome to this edition of Live and Learn. This time with the release of a text to 3D generation model by Meta, a paper by MIT on how to train robots using the Apple Vision Pro, and the latest Neuralink Update. As always, I hope you enjoy this Edition of Live and Learn!

In life, it's often not what you know, but who you know that opens the most doors.

Joscha Bach Synthetic Consciousness Talk by CCC. Joscha Bach's talks at the CCC are always a treat and this one is not an exception. I think he might be the person who can most concisely summarize and elucidate complex phenomena spanning philosophy, mathematics, computer science and AI research. In this talk he tries to shine some light on what consciousness is, and how we might go about creating it in machines too.
Text to 3D-Generation Model by Meta. Meta released their own version of a text to 3D generation model. This outputs full PBR (physically based rendering) materials and more accurate textures, in one go, creating high quality 3D models from text prompts in as little as 1 minute.
Robot TeleVision Paper by MIT. This paper by MIT integrates the Apple Vision Pro into training and tele-operation procedures for humanoid robots. It's literally about how people can train robots to do household tasks using the Apple Vision Pro's gesture abilities and hand tracking while also gathering useable training data, so that the robot can learn and execute the learned tasks autonomously afterwards. We live in wild times.
Neuralink Update. The latest Neuralink Update livestream happened on X not long ago and what they are planning is wild. They are literally building an unhinged cyberpunk future and most people don't even know about what is happening there. Just listening to them casually talking about becoming able to control robot arms, restore sight in blind people and curing paralysis is mind-blowing. But ultimately this will be a device that everybody could buy and this to me is an exciting (and potentially very dystopian) future to look forward to.
Open AI Mira Murati Interview by Kara Swisher. Back when OpenAI fired Sam Altman for a couple days one of the reporters who had fast and accurate information was Kara Swisher. Her interviewing Mira Murati is a treat to watch. Asking the right questions, digging deeper, almost to the point of being a little obnoxious, yet respectful. It's good journalism with a bit of dry humor by somebody who knows what to ask and they talk about what is happening at OpenAI and its role interacting with society, copy-right lawsuits, capitalism, safety research and the potential creation of AGI.
🌌 Traveling 🌌
I spent some time in Cologne and Berlin and am enjoying the summer here in Germany overall. It's been more of a slower time lately, less traveling, seeing more friends, enjoying the good weather.
